Internet Bums

Oh…the Internet, how it has become an adventure in and of itself to find. You go searching, seeking it, for it may be lurking anywhere, just around the corner at a local café. You look for places with tables and umbrellas set-up outside, waitresses with aprons, and other crewmembers on the laptops and blackberries.
In some instances there is even somewhat of a comraderee amongst the crew when in search of it. You see someone you know and you ask if they’ve found wireless and it’s like asking if there’s work to be found amongst day laborers in the old west. “There be wifi over dem dere hills”

Today in Curacoa it took me almost 45 minutes to find a pleasant place with a fast connection, but it was worth it.

You never know how much you value the damn thing until its not easily accessible. We as a society get used to being able to go to our local coffee shop or just log-on from the comfort of our living rooms. But when stuck in the middle of the ocean (as pleasant as it may be) and you are having a debate with your friend as to whether it was Gerrard Buttler or Jeffrey Dean Morgan in “P.S. I love you”, the internet can come quite in handy.
Besides it contains so many fun facts and interesting tidbits, like that awesome quote or that funny picture. I’m just saying if Google offered an acredited on-line university, four years from it’s inception you’d have a gob worth of people entering the workforce with the green, blue, and red logo on the top of their diploma.

So until World Wide Web really does offer Internet anywhere any time, you will find us crewmembers huddeling in the Margaritavilles and the Iguana Café’s of the world. Sitting on sidewalks, and being Internet bums as I like to call my compatriots who “borrow” wifi without paying for it.

It’s an everecent search when going to a brand new port. But what can I say “My name is Moses and I love the Internet…”.

Well…until next time…I’m gonna “Internet some moe”
