Let's Scuba some moe...

I guess it goes along with the whole persona of being an adventurer, going out, taking part in different schemes of interest , and exploring new worlds, while at the same time exploring thyself, and trying a myriad of things. Scuba is one of those things. I think that it is good to go out and take part in something completely different from the other parts of your life. I actually think that life should be a collage of diverse experiences that you enjoy doing. I think that’s what makes life dynamic, I think that that diversity is what makes museums interesting to be in, New York a wonderful place to live, and alphabet soup such an interesting dining experience.

Anywho…we started the morning off by filling out some preliminary paperwork, watching a short video on the basics of safe diving, and then on to the swimming pool for training in some basics of underwater swimming and techniques. Such as what to do if your mask come off, how to decend using your Buoyancy Control Device (BCD), and of course how to use your scuba gear.

At long last we made our way to our high-speed motor boat for our first bona-fide dive. It was a wonderful sight, four newcommers to the experience of diving, gearing up with the mixture of eager anticipation and nervousness, but with smiles and determination on our faces.

Breaking that membrane of sea water for first time with your scuba gear is like reliving the first time you went underwater in the swimming pool and opened your eyes despite the fact that you didn’t have goggles. And not to become too "fantastic" in my description, it’s like being born again into another world; and you with your scuba gear are like a newborn figuring out your environment. I guess that explains the spiritual significance behind baptisms huh?

Walking on the ocean floor for me is akin to being an employee at a place that has employee only signs on the door. You know when you walk through that door, you have complete right to be there, but for the first few days, in the back of your mind you’re still asking yourself. “Am I really allowed in here?”

That’s what it was like for me, “am I really supposed to be able to do this…?

But at the end of the day, after floating over beautiful coral, through schools of fish, and over and around all types of landscapes it was like being in the playground of another dimension, and I can’t wait to go back.

Let’s scuba some moe.
